Squier Stratocaster or Epiphone Les Paul?

I have been playing the electric guitar for 8 months now, and i'm looking for a change in guitar (I have the Squier Stratocaster now). I've been reading great reviews of the Epi, but i was wondering if it was worth getting the Epi Les Paul now, or waiting another 1 or 2 years to get the Gibson Les Paul.
