Best guitar amp for a beginner?

Hi i started learning guitar about a month ago and have starting to figure things out. Im becoming better everyday. I started out with an epi lp junior and upgraded to a standard epi lp which has excellent tone for the price. but anyway i dont feel like im doing it justice on my little 60 dollar amp. I researched alot of guitars and really understand them and i understand alot about amps but like whats the differrences like beteween tube solid state and all that? Im looking for one that goes in the 400-500 range considering this is for maybe bedroom work and some recordings. what woul u suggest for a guy like me. Oh and my music tastes are like classic rock, hardrock, alternative grunge, and some not alot of pop. mostly classic and grunge. (huge nirvana/pearl jame fan). Any suggestions aprreciated thanks
